About MAD

I am a Multi-Media artist! To tell you about myself, I will start at the beginning.

I’m a native of New Jersey – the Garden State. New Jersey gets a bad rap. Except for the metropolitan areas, it’s truly beautiful. The Appalachian Trail runs through the north-west corner of the state; and, then, there are the beaches. Well, I’ve lived in Plano, Texas, for the past 33 years. Although, the terrain and climate leave a little to be desired, I love living here. I have met so many wonderful, inspiring artists and made great friends. My creativity has flourished in this environment.

I studied fashion designing at the Fashion Institute of Technology in NY and computer science at the University of Texas at Dallas. Transparent watercolors is my favored medium. I love the way they flow over the paper. My watercolor paintings were very realistic. I’ve started painting watercolor abstracts on Yupo synthetic paper. The abstracts are quite challenging! It is not as easy as it looks and I have a new respect for quality abstract art. In the past few years I have also been working on acrylic collages. It has been fun to incorporate my photographs into some of them. I took a monotype workshop. What fun that was! I had never done any printing before. Besides having an excellent teacher, I had several gifted printers around me, from whom I learned a great deal.

Eight years ago, I began dabbling in jewelry design. That has blossomed into “Wearable Art”. I love creating jewelry that is truly unique and fun to wear. My favorite medium is glass, especially hand-made glass beads. The clarity of the color and design are similar to the watercolors I love to paint. Several years ago, I took a workshop on glass bead making; but decided that the blow-torch was not my instrument of choice. I prefer to buy my beads from other artists; however, I started making fused glass pendants and have expanded into larger art glass pieces.

Someone asked how many mediums I wanted to work in. The question stumped me! I didn’t know there had to be a limit.
